Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Star Wars: The Last Jedi is only a week away, and the anticipation is inching closer to pure hysteria.
Especially since Disney and Lucasfilm have gone out of their way to tease fans about an endless array of potentially disastrous situations which could unfold: could Kylo Ren kill his mother, Leia? (Not likely.) Will Luke be hiding a secret that could tear the galaxy apart? (Much more likely.) Could Rey turn to the dark side? (Surely not!)
All secrets which audiences in the UK have the pleasure of discovering early: the film will open here on 14 December, alongside several other territories including New Zealand, Germany, and Australia.
Meanwhile, US audiences will have to wait until the next day, 15 December. The same is true of audiences in Canada, Japan, and Spain amongst others. You can see the full global release schedule here.
That's after the film gets its official world premiere on 9 December in LA, where all the film's stars - from Mark Hamill to Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac to newcomer Kelly Marie Tran - will be in attendance to celebrate the biggest cinematic release of the year.
