From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Bad Lip Reading, which has drawn millions and millions of views on YouTube for its surreal dubbings, has taken on the original Star Wars trilogy.

Cashing in on the fever surrounding new sequel The Force Awakens, the first seven-minute video imagines some very different conversations between Luke, Leia, Han, Obi-Wan and more in A New Hope.

Leia’s hologram message hidden in R2-D2 turns out to just be her saying: “I want a wooden snowman, but no-one sells them.”

Obi-Wan is sick of Han’s “sass” in the cantina meanwhile, and the smuggler later offers a bizarre non-sequitur in the Millennium Falcon:

“Hey does everybody like my wrists? Coz some wrists are a bit weird. I should build a baby Taco Bell, the sign would be kind of cute.”

Darth and Obi-Wan lightsaber duel over their mum’s crossword, Grand Moff Tarkin gets annoyed with Vader calling him “a turd burglar at the gym”, and Han looks forward to returning to the Death Star for some brisket.

It’s good, although not as funny as the Game of Thrones Bad Lip Reading, nor the infamous NFL one.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in UK cinemas today, having already pre-sold over a million tickets.
