Fans have just over four months to go until The Rise of Skywalker is released in cinemas and, thanks to director Kevin Smith, excitement is about to go into overdrive.
According to the filmmaker, he visited the set of the Disney sequel and saw something that “melted” his mind.
He claims he was later told by JJ Abrams that what he glimpsed will be the final shot of the film and, going by his comments, it’s going to be something of a game-changer.
“[Crew members] were like, ‘You have to see this. When you see it, it’ll melt your mind.’ I was like, ‘What was it?’ and they were like ‘Ask JJ’” Smith told IGN.
“JJ goes, ‘Don’t.’ I said ‘Why?’ And he said ‘It’s the last shot of the movie.’ I was like, well, now I really want to see it, and he said ‘You don’t want this spoiled. You want to be in a theatre when you see this, trust me.’”
Smith could be lying about this, but if he’s not, it seems like The Rise of Skywalker – the final chapter in this particular trilogy – is going to send people away with lots to dissect.
Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker is released 16 December.
