The past week has been alight with Black Panther casting news but the latest name rumoured to be in the running to join the ever-growing ensemble is perhaps the most intriguing.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that John Boyega is meeting Marvel honchos for a role in the film despite playing one of the leads in another gargantuan franchise - namely Star Wars.

The news follows reports that Lupita Nyong'o is being lined up to play the film's main female character. It has also been confirmed that director Ryan Coogler has enlisted his Creed, lead Michael B. Jordan, to take on villain duties.

Boyega played Finn in Episode VII - The Force Awakens and is set to reprise the role for the upcoming two instalments, the next of which will be released December 2018. The British actor recently teased Rian Johnson's follow-up stating it will be "darker, bigger" than JJ Abrams' predecessor.

Black Panther will further explore the history of T'Challa, the warrior king of Marvel's fictional country Wakanda, following an initial debut in Captain America: Civil War which saw Chadwick Boseman make his first appearance in the studios' Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to Fast Company, Coogler - who also directed Jordan in Fruitvale Station - expressed how the big budget film is going to be his "most personal film yet."

Black Panther's standalone outing will be released 18 February, 2018.
