The director took to Twitter to post a handwritten message in response to images shared online showing props and locations from the hotly-awaited new film.
Abrams message was, however, done with a playful tone and directed at Star Wars fans who will understand its deeper meaning.
“I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VIII,” it read. “And making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie.”
Abrams is referring to photos published by TMZ revealing a full-size, under construction replica of Han Solo’s spaceship in the midst of the Abu Dhabi desert, surrounded by background actors.
The secret joke comes with what the note is sitting on. The table behind the card is used to play Dejarik in the original trilogy – a Star Wars take on chess that uses holographic monsters instead of standard pieces.
The table appeared when Chewbacca and R2-D2 indulged in a heated game while aboard the Millennium Falcon.
If fans are meant to read into this newest hint, Abrams has just confirmed that, as suspected, the Falcon is back.
Abrams previously penned a motivational message to his team inspiring them to meet high expectations from across the world and 'give 'em something great'.
