UPDATE: Following on from JJ Abrams revealing Chris Hemsworth would return for the fourth Star Trek film, Paramount has confirmed the sequel to Beyond is in the works.

The release states that Chris Pine's James T. Kirk will meet his father, played by Hemsworth: “a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born.”

ORIGINAL: Despite the third part in the recently rebooted Star Trek series having yet to hit cinemas, attention has already turned to the fourth sequel - in thanks to JJ Abrams.

Speaking to Access Hollywood’s Scott Mantz, the Star Trek Beyond producer revealed that Chris Hemsworth will be returning to the series despite his character dying in the first film.

According to Abrams, the upcoming film will ‘bring together’ father and son, Hemsworth’s George Kirk and Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk.

Whether in a flashback or in a time-travelling storyline, we do not know; perhaps Kirk Jr. will attempt to save his father from the villaineous Nero?

Meanwhile, Beyond hits cinemas later this month and has already received many positive reviews.

In the run-up to the film’s release, numerous actors have revealed tidbits of information about characters, including Simon Pegg who revealed the character Jaylah is inspired by Jennifer Lawrence.

Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana have all returned to the series for Justin Lin’s new film which arrives in UK cinemas on 22 July.
