The film appearances racked up by Stan Lee - while plentiful due to his cameos in every new Marvel film - probably only comprise 20 seconds of screen time.

Considering the comic book creator is to thank for some of the millennium's biggest films, it's no surprise to learn that Fox has snapped up the rights to the nonagenarian's life story.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the creator of some of the most recognisable characters in superhero history is to be given a film befitting to the stories he wrote; not strictly a biopic, the biographical tale will be a 1970s-set action-adventure.

Producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (The Maze Runner, the upcoming Power Rangers film) have promised a Roger Moore-era 007 outing in the ilk of Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Lee, original name Stanley Lieber, was born in 1922 and began work in the comic book publishing world at the age of 17. It was until his Forties that Lee co-created The Fantastic Four, a move that kick-started Marvel comics leading to the creation of characters including Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and the X-Men.

Now 93, the writer is a vibrant force behind the films featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including Captain America; Civil War and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.
