From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Has there ever been a British aircraft as iconic as the Spitfire, the mass-produced plane that helped win the Battle of Britain?

Of course, those planes would have been grounded marvels without those courageous pilots who charged into battle against the nazis back in World War II.

Marking the RAF’s centenary year, a new documentary telling the Spitfire's story reaches cinemas, featuring interviews with some of the last-surviving combat veterans.

Above, you can watch The Independent's exclusive clip from Spitfire, featuring incredible imagery and the words of two former pilots.

Spitfire combines new aerial footage from aviation photographer John Dibbs with rare digitally re-mastered archive film from the tumultuous days of the 1940s.

The documentary will receives its World Premiere on Monday 9 July at Curzon Mayfair, London followed by a One Night Only event screening in cinemas across the UK on Tuesday 17 July. Spitfire will be in cinemas on 20 July.
