Tom Holland's Spider-Man won't be appearing in the forthcoming spin-off focused on Marvel villain Venom.

Variety discovered the news upon asking Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige flat out whether the superhero - who will next be seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming - will appear alongside Tom Hardy in the planned film. He responded with a simple “No.”

Feige elaborated: “No, I think the folks there are making a great Venom movie and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming - Trailer 3

Venom is an extension of Sony's Spider-Man universe. It will see the studio, who shares the web-slinger with Marvel, also make films focused on characters Silver Sable and Black Cat. It was recently revealed none of these will cross over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) from a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). It is expected to be released 5 October 2018.

Following Homecoming - which is released 7 July - Holland's Spider-Man will be seen in Avengers: Infinity War.

It was recently revealed that Spider-Man's existence in the MCU dates back to 2010 film Iron Man 2.
