It looks as if that first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming was pretty well received, then.

Sony has jumped on the positive hype surrounding the hero's first film since Marvel Studios and Sony reached a deal to share rights to the character, and integrate him within the MCU, leading to his first onscreen appearance (as played by Tom Holland) in this year's Captain America: Civil War.

The studio has confirmed that not only will Homecoming be receiving (a yet unnamed) sequel, but the film will be set for a 5 July, 2019 release date (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Sony's announcement also involved a slight shift in release date for Bad Boys 4, which will now open 24 May, 2019; following a third announced Bad Boys film on 12 January, 2018.

The Spider-Man solo sequel will form part of a six-picture deal Holland has signed, including three solo films and three other appearances within the MCU - presumably including the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Spider-Man: Homecoming skips over the hero's overdone origin story and instead sees him attempting to balance high school drama and superhero responsibilities, hoping to prove himself to Tony Stark that he has what it takes to become an Avenger.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits UK cinemas 7 July, 2017.
