But first - the good news: the character, played by Tom Holland, has been confirmed to appear in Avengers 4 which will be released May 2019.
In fact, that year will be Spidey heavy what with the already-confirmed Homecoming follow-up arriving just two months later in July 2019.
Beyond that, however, rumours are rife that may be the last fans see of the webslinger as part of the MCU with Collider reporting that producer Amy Pascal suggested the sequel could mark the end of its deal with Sony.
Kevin Feige remains somewhat optimistic. When asked how Spider-Man would fit into the series post-Homecoming 2, he seemed to let slip that the character doesn't seem to be part of any planned films going into next decade. Instead, he stated simply to The Hollywood Reporter: “That's as far as it goes for now.”
Spider-Man made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War which was released April 2016. Homecoming is set to be released 7 July 2017, and following that, he'll show up in Avengers: Infinity War alongside pretty much every Marvel superhero yet.
Next up on the Marvel Studios agenda is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 which is released in cinemas on 28 April.
