The breakdown of a deal between the studios means that Tom Holland’s webslinger may no longer appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while the majority of the backlash has been aimed at Sony, a representative seems to point the blame at Disney for not permitting Marvel president Kevin Feige to serve as a producer on the next film.
“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterised recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise,” the representative said. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.”
Sony’s rep highlighted that Feige’s busy workload means he won’t be able to officially help develop the character’s story from here on out.
While the spokesperson also added this could “change in the future”, there’s no denying that Tom Holland’s future is about to change in a big way.

According to reports, there are two live-action Spider-Man films planned to be released a Sony, but it’s unknown how his absence from the MCU will be dealt with.
Feige, who Sony praised as “terrific”, is said to have helped out with Venom and did so without receiving a producing credit, so there’s a chance he could do the same with the new films.
