With no new films set to be released this year due to the pandemic, attention has turned to Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film due to some recent casting announcements.
Following the reports that Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange is set to join the web-slinger in his next outing, it is widely expected that the film's official title will soon be revealed.
This expectation intensified on Wednesday (14 October) when US chat show host Jimmy Kimmel tweeted what appeared to be a bogus piece of news regarding the new film – namely that he had been cast as Kraven the Hunter.
While many assumed he was telling the truth, Holland fans quickly jumped in to point out that this, while almost certainly a joke, could be a hint that some official news was on the way.
Some fans view Kimmel as Holland's source of choice when it comes to revealing big details relating to Spider-Man films. It was Kimmel’s late night talk show on which the British actor first unveiled Spider-Man's MCU suit.
Excitingly, there is a surprise slot reserved on Kimmel’s show tomorrow evening (16 October) with many expecting it to be Holland.
There have been many theories and rumours about what the new Spider-Man film will be called.
It is strongly expected to keep the theme of including the word “Home” following previous films Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Previous rumours suggested the new film will be called Spider-Man: Home Run, which ties in with the fact Peter Parker is now a fugitive.
However, a new theory posits that the title could actually be Spider-Man: Homesick.
It seems that an announcement is not too far away.
Jamie Foxx recently confirmed he will return in the sequel as Electro, the villain who last appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. The casting announcement generated the theory that the villainous Sinister Six will be introduced in the MCU.
Spider-Man 3 is set to be released in December 2021.
