Films like Precious, Layer Cake, Somewhere and Cocktail are referenced as the couple sit down to a bitter dinner date in Movie Title Breakup, ordering food and trading accusations as the corresponding films flash up on the screen.
Not only did the filmmakers manage to create a functional narrative, but some of the lines are reasonably subtle, including the exchange: "I know what you did last summer / Heaven help us, what is it? / Rumour has it, very bad things."
