From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Solo: A Star Wars Story – the highly anticipated Star Wars spin-off movie about beloved troublemaker Han Solo – will reportedly premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

According to various trade reports, the Disney produced movie will debut on the 15 May, 10 days before being released worldwide on the 25 May.

Star Wars has a history at the Cannes Film Festical, George Lucas’s Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith both debuting at the competition in past years.

The three most recent Star Wars movies – The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi – have all had premieres in LA, having had December release dates rather than May.

Solo has had a troubled production, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired midway through filming and Ron Howard being brought on as a replacement.

Howard also has a history at Cannes Film Festival, his 2006 blockbuster Da Vinci Code debuting at the event in 2006.

Meanwhile, in other Star Wars news, Tony Gilroy – one of the writers behind Rogue One – has spoken about the movie’s troubled production for the first time.

Solo reaches cinemas 25 May.
