From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The film grossed £1.4 million over its opening weekend to push Scarlett Johansson’s thriller Lucy into second place.
But Sex Tape failed to hit number one when it debuted in the US in July, entering in fourth place instead. To date it has taken just $38.1 million in ticket sales.
Elsewhere, Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman’s Before I Go To Sleep debuted at number three in the UK, while Helen Mirren’s The Hundred-Foot Journey entered at four.
Former Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens can be seen in other new entry The Guest, which sits at number eight having taken £313,000.
Disney’s space movie Guardians of the Galaxy is at number five, having grossed more than £25 million since its release six weeks ago.
Prequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and sequel The Inbetweeners 2 also remain in the top ten having enjoyed successful UK runs.
Sex Tape was described as “wittier and less smutty than its reputation might suggest” by The Independent’s film critic.
Its release came just days after nude photos of high profile figures including Jennifer Lawrence, Victoria Justice and Kate Upton were leaked online by an iCloud hacker.
