From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The classic Eighties film will be brought to life in a secret location set in 1955, complete with secret alleys and entrances that will allow audiences to travel to 1985 and 2015.
Update: Tickets sold out in just four hours but new dates have been added from 14- 31 August (on sale 11 June at 1pm).
Following on from previous interactive shows such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, Grease and Top Gun, Back to the Future will be the biggest live cinema event ever staged in the UK.
During the immersive first half of the evening, audience members will act as characters inside Hill Valley with some being transported in a time machine while others become part of the film’s 1955 and 1985 worlds.
A screening of Robert Zemickis’ cult movie, starring Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd, will follow with added experiential surprise elements.
There will be a Battle of the Bands contest to determine who will play on the stage each night, with a secret, high-profile headline act.
The famous “Enchantment Under the Sea” prom dance will take the form of an after party at an undisclosed nearby venue.
“We will play heavily on the innocent dreamlike Americana world of 1955 and the nostalgic pre-mobile phone world of 1985,” said Fabien Riggall, Secret Cinema founder and artistic director.
Tickets for Back to the Future, set to run from 24 July to 10 August, will be available from the Secret Cinema website tomorrow.
After close to 45 large scale cinematic productions, the brand plans to expand its project worldwide in 2015.
A message on the company's website reads: "Secret Cinema is a growing community of all that love cinema and experiencing the unknown. Secret audience. Secret film. Secret locations. Secret worlds. The time is now to change how we watch films."
