Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Secret Cinema returns this summer with their biggest event yet.

Their take on Blade Runner brought neon-drenched, subversive futurism to an undisclosed London location; allowing the cinematically curious to delve into the mysterious world of Ridley Scott's classic 1982 sci-fi.

Now, they bring to life Baz Luhrmann's electric Romeo + Juliet for an outdoor, summer festival-type experience taking place (once more) in a secret location, transformed for a limited time into the colourful world of Verona Beach.

From 9 - 19 August, young hearts will run free as Secret Cinema brings together live bands, DJs, choirs and artists to perform to an audience of almost 5,000 people, who will themselves get the opportunity to take part in the spectacle.

Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall said: "We are excited to take Secret Cinema into the fields reimagining the festival format by creating large scale magical immersive worlds across an entire outdoor location, where the audience live inside the most loved films of all time."

"We are excited to launch our summer festival with the perfect film in Romeo and Juliet. The film is the perfect title to bring to life and confronts some profoundly important social issues, such as youth violence, that remain as relevant in London today as they did in Shakespeare’s Fair Verona. We will be working with a London based charity who work towards tackling these problems."

Secret Cinema Presents William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet tickets will go on sale at 12pm on Friday 18 May. Prices start at £49 (plus booking fee), with VIP packages from £85 (plus booking fee). Full details are available here.
