Harrison Ford has paid tribute to the late Sean Connery, who died on Saturday (31 October) aged 90.

The pair appeared together in Steven Spielberg’s 1989 sequel Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, with Connery playing the father to Ford’s titular archeologist adventurer Henry Jones Sr.

Speaking to Variety, Ford said of Connery: “He was my father… not in life… but in Indy 3.

“You don’t know pleasure until someone pays you to take Sean Connery for a ride in the sidecar of a Russian motorcycle bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm. God, we had fun.”

He continued: “If he’s in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend.”

Scottish actor Connery was best known for his portrayal of James Bond in seven films from 1962 to 1983.

He died in his sleep in the Bahamas, surrounded by his family.

Connery’s wife later revealed that the actor had been unwell for a long period of time and had suffered with dementia in his later years.

“He had dementia and it took its toll on him,” she said. “He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”

She added: “It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.”
