Scream 5: Fans of horror franchise don’t approve of new film’s title

The horror sequel wrapped production earlier this week, and the original film's writer Kevin Williamson, who is executive producing, used the opportunity to reveal what it would be called.
Scream's fifth instalment will be titled: SCREAM.
This reveal left fans somewhat underwhelmed, with many expressing their frustration on Twitter.
After the Twitter page of the Evolution of Horror podcast shared the title, one person called it "really lame", adding: "I didn't like it when they did this for 2018's Halloween, didn't like it for 2011's The Thing, don't like it now."
Another horror fan wrote: "I wish there was a law where remakes and reboots had to have some unique identifier."
Someone else had a more simple title idea in mind, writing: “We can just *call* it SCREAM 5, guys."
Journalist Kristy Puchko added: “I hate the Scream 5 title news. I hate it as an entertainment reporter. I hate it as a fan of the franchise. I hate it as a person who values clarity and precision wherever possible."
Original cast members Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Sheriff Dwight “Dewey” Riley) are all returning, with Ready or Not's Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing.
It will be the first Scream film since the death of Wes Craven, who directed all four outings to date. He died of a brain tumour in 2015.
Williamson said: “I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making."
SCREAM will be released in January 2022.
