Sacha Baron Cohen has revealed how he managed to sneak into a Mike Pence speech disguised as Donald Trump.

Earlier this year, the actor – dressed in full costume as the US president – attended a Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hall, Maryland to film a scene for his forthcoming Borat sequel.

Speaking to the New York Times, Baron Cohen recalled the difficulties he encountered when attempting to gain admission to the event.

He said that after realising that security was there to “check everyone’s bodies going through” he began to wonder: “How do I get in and how do I get out?”

The actor continued: “Bear in mind, I spent five hoursin makeup that morning with the prosthetic team changing my face into Trump’s face.”

“This fat suit is huge,” he added. “It’s a 56-inch fat suit to turn my waist into Trump’s because we had estimated that was the most realistic.”

After a security guard’s wand began beeping, the 49-year-old was forced to improvise and claim it was because of his defibrillator.

The Bruno star continued: “Then I ended up hiding in the bathroom, listening to conservative men go to the toilet for five hours until I broke into the room. We were surrounded by Secret Service and police and internal security.”

The incident was well documented by photographers at the time who captured images of an “unidentified” Trump impersonator interrupting Pence’s speech.

The scene was also featured in the trailer for the sequel. In it, Baron Cohen – dressed as Trump – can be seen carrying a woman over his shoulder through the crowd.

The New York Times have stated that the woman in question is Irina Nowak, the actor who will portray Borat’s daughter in the forthcoming film.

Borat 2 is out on 23 October. Baron Cohen can currently be seen in Aaron Sorkin's Netflix drama The Trial of the Chicago 7.
