A new featurette has offered the first glimpse of Taron Egerton singing “Tiny Dancer” as Elton John in the upcoming biopic Rocketman.

The film, co-produced by John, will cover the musician’s rise from prodigal pianist to global superstar while “stripping back the glitter”.

It will stretch all the way from his time at Royal Academy of Music, through to his influential and enduring musical partnership with Bernie Taupin, while also covering his struggles with depression and substance abuse, alongside his own exploration of his sexuality.

Egerton had already previously worked with John in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, where the musician had made a cameo appearance as himself.

Dexter Fletcher – who replaced Bryan Singer as director of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody – will direct, with Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard all co-starring.

Rocketman will be released in UK cinemas on 24 May.
