Documents obtained by The Blast see the actor allege that Harvey Weinstein’s former film studio owe him almost $940,706 for work on Silver Linings Playbook – a role for which De Niro was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.
The claim comes to light amidst The Weinstein Company filing for bankruptcy, De Niro joining multiple other actors who are hoping to win assets from TWC before the eventual sale to Lantern Capital.
Two other esteemed actors who have claimed they are still owed money are Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, for their work on August: Osage County. Both were also nominated for Oscars for their roles in the 2013 movie and claim they are each owed $168,611. Brad Pitt ($278,865 for work on Killing The Softly) and George Clooney ($250,000 for producing August: Osage County) also claim they are owed money by TWC.
Previously, director Quentin Tarantino claimed to be owed $4.5 million from four previous projects with the studio: Grindhouse, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. Other names to have been linked with being owed money include De Niro’s Silver Linings co-star Jennifer Lawrence, along with Jake Gyllenhaal, Bill Murray, and Rachel McAdams.
Meanwhile, De Niro made headlines earlier this month after saying ‘f**k Trump’ at the Tony Awards, leading to a Tweeted response from the President.
