The pair are being lined up to appear in Gucci, a new drama from Ridley Scott.
Currently, the only actor officially attached is Lady Gaga, who will play Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Italian businessman Maurizio Gucci.
Gucci – who was the one-time head of the renowned fashion house – was assassinated on the steps of his office in 1995. The hit was orchestrated by Reggiani.
It’s unknown who De Niro and Pacino would play, but the on-screen reunion would mark their fifth film after The Godfather Part II (1974), Heat (1995), Righteous Kill (2008) and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman (2019).
According to Deadline, Gucci is also set to star Adam Driver, Jared Leto and Jack Huston.
It will be Lady Gaga’s first film since earning a Best Actress Oscar nomination for A Star Is Born.
Gucci will be released by MGM, and will begin production once Scott has finished work on his forthcoming historical drama, The Last Duel, also starring Driver.
The delayed film follows best friends, Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and Jacques Le Gris, who are ordered to fight to the death after Carrouges accuses Le Gris of raping his wife.
De Niro and Pacino’s previous film, The Irishman, was released on Netflix in 2019. It scored the latter a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
The award eventually went to Brad Pitt for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
