From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Despite having an incredibly prolific career, Steven Spielberg is still out there, making films; most recently, his version of The BFG was released in cinemas, almost grossing £30 million in the UK alone.
The director - who is behind Indiana Jones, Jaws, and Jurassic Park - is currently working on one of his many upcoming projects; a film adaptation of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One.
Filming reportedly began back in July, but very little information has made its way online. Finally, though, various set images and videos have emerged, revealing a first look Olivia Cooke’s Art3mis.
Surprisingly, a number of set dressings feature previous Spielberg films including Jaws and Gremlins, the book having heavily referenced his past films. Whether these images will be mere Easter Eggs or something more has yet to be revealed.
Ready Player One’s story, primarily set in a virtual utopia called OASIS, focusses on a teenager’s quest to find the game’s hidden treasure, left behind by its founder.
Starring alongside Cooke in the film are Tye Sheridan, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, TJ Miller, and Mark Rylance; Sheridan plays the lead character while Rylance plays OASIS’s Willy Wonker-esque founder.
Ready Player One has a US release date of 30 March 2018, having moved from December 2017 thanks to Star Wars: Episode 8 being delayed.
