From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Another year, another Oscars ceremony sees the best filmmakers awarded for their astounding work, this year’s awards likely going to the likes of Three Billboards, The Shape of Water, and Dunkirk.

As always, days before the celebration, Hollywood’s most cynical awards are presented: the Razzies, given to what are deemed the worst movies produced the previous year.

This year’s Worst Picture award has gone to The Emoji Movie — the animated movie that saw Sir Patrick Stewart voice a poop Emoji and was deemed terrible by the majority of critics.

The Emoji Movie also picked up Worst Screen Combo for “Any Two Obnoxious Emojis”, Worst Director, and Worst screenplay.

The night’s other big ‘winner’ is Fifty Shades Freed. The latest sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey picked up Worst Remake, Sequel, or Spin-Off and Worst Supporting Actress for Kim Basinger.

Others to pick up awards are Tom Cruise for Worst Actor in The Mummy, Tyler Perry for Worst Actress in Boo! 2: A Madea Halloween, and Mel Gibson for Worst Supporting Actor in Daddy’s Home 2.

Meanwhile, the Oscars take place on Sunday (4 March), keep up with the latest on the awards here.
