Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A movie about the porn baron Paul Raymond starring Steve Coogan will have to change its title after a legal tussle with the late tycoon's family.
The Channel 4-backed film was to have been called The King Of Soho, but faced a challenge from Raymond's son, Howard, who had already registered the name for a rival production. Now backers of the Coogan movie – directed by Michael Winterbottom – have agreed they will find a new name for the biopic.
Mr Raymond called in lawyers, claiming he had the rights to the name, which is also the title of a biography he wrote about his father. A film based on his book is to star Avengers Assemble's actor Tom Hiddleston.
"I am delighted that Michael Winterbottom has agreed to change the name of his film as it was causing a huge amount of confusion in the media that two films were being made about my father under the same title," said Mr Raymond yesterday.
