The 41-year-old actress made her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2 in May, setting a record for the highest opening weekend from a first-time director and beating Mad Max: Fury Road with an impressive $69 million.
Now she has revealed that yes, discussions have started on whether or not to make a third musical comedy about a cappella singing sensations the Barden Bellas.
"We're thinking about it, we're thinking about it very seriously," Banks told Access Hollywood.
"Of course we're at the very beginning of that process. We would love to spend more time with these characters that everyone's fallen so hard in love with."
Pitch Perfect 2 has so far grossed more than $250 million at the global box office, with Rebel Wilson taking on a more starring role as fan favourite Fat Amy.
Wilson has reportedly expressed interest in reprising her role (the LA Times tweeted that she has signed on) but whether lead actress Anna Kendrick will return remains in doubt.
Kendrick was not believed to be overly keen for Pitch Perfect 2 so may need some persuading to tackle a third round as Beca.
