Piers Morgan had a full-scale meltdown on Good Morning Britain after former 007 star Pierce Brosnan endorsed the idea that a woman should take on the role of James Bond.

Brosnan, who starred in four Bond films, said it is time to pass the iconic role to a woman amid rumours that Lashana Lynch could take over after the forthcoming No Time to Die instalment.

“Yes!” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.”

He expressed doubt that the change would take place under the current producers: “I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis. I don’t think that’s going to happen under their watch,” he said.

Brosnan added that Bond would have to change with the times to reflect movements such as #MeToo, which he called “relevant and significant”.

Responding to Brosnan’s comments, GMB presenter Piers Morgan branded it “pathetic, virtue-signalling nonsense” and claimed “the campaign to save James Bond starts right here”.

“They are not changing James Bond to a damn woman on my watch,” he announced, adding: “He was the last sort of, slightly caveman guy, who would throw a woman over his shoulder, ravish her ‘til dawn.”

He added sarcastically: “And we can’t have any of that, women don’t want sex anymore.”

No Time to Die is currently scheduled for release on 3 April 2020.
