From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Set in post-World War II London, the film centres on Reynolds Woodcock (Day-Lewis), a renowned dressmaker enjoying bachelor life. Soon enough, Reynolds meets Alma, who becomes a lover.
Vicky Krieps plays Alma, while Lesley Manville stars as Woodcock’s sister, and Richard Graham has an unspecified role.
Since finishing Phantom Thread, Lewis has announced his retirement from acting, a representative for the actor saying: "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."
Anderson and Lewis famously worked together on There Will Be Blood, winning the actor an Oscar for the performance.
Since then, Anderson has directed two feature-length films, The Master and Inherent Vice, both of which star Joaquin Phoenix. The director also helmed the music video for Radiohead’s Daydreaming, guitarist Jonny Greenwood composing the soundtrack for Phantom Thread.
