From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Boys between the ages of 11 to 13 of all ethnicities are being invited to audition at Wembley Arena in London on Sunday 23 February.
Peter Pan is described by the filmmakers as “a courageous and adventurous orphaned boy living in a world of fantasy and dreams, which sometimes leads him into trouble.”
The film, titled Pan, will be directed by Joe Wright, whose previous movies include Pride & Prejudice, Atonement and Anna Karenina.
A website dedicated to the open auditions states boys must be a maximum 5 ft 4 inches (162cm) and must be available for the film’s production period in London from April until early autumn 2014.
The queue for the auditions will open at 9am on Sunday 23 February and close at 11am, with casting beginning at 10am.
The filmmakers have stressed that all auditionees must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and cannot audition for the part if they arrive unaccompanied.
Keen young actors who cannot attend the auditions can also submit an online audition video on the film’s casting website.
