From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Actors already on board include Dev Patel (as the titular character), Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, and Hugh Laurie.
Iannucci has since announced that Peter Capaldi will play Mr. Micawber, the famous optimist forced to work for a corrupt Uriah Heep in order to pay of his debts.
The former Doctor Who and Iannucci have worked together on multiple occasions, Capaldi famously playing Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It and In The Loop.
Mr. Micawber has been portrayed multiple times on screen before, most famously by W.C. Fields in the acclaimed 1935 film adaptation of Dickens’s book. Bob Hoskins later tackled the role in the 1999 BBC series, while David Jason played the character in the 2001 ITV drama Micawber.
Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield currently has no release date. Simon Blackwell – who also worked on In The Loop, The Thick of It, and Veep – will co-author the screenplay.
Capaldi was last seen on the big screen portraying Mr. Curry in Paddington 2 and will next voice Rabbit in Disney’s upcoming movie Christopher Robin.
