From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. He might have ruled both himself and Ian McKellen out of the next X-Men film just last month, but now, Patrick Stewart has changed his story and teased a Wolverine role to boot.

The English actor confirmed that while it is “very unlikely” that he will be returning for X-Men: Apocalypse which is preparing to start shooting in Montreal, McKellen is “certainly going to be in it” as Magneto.

Even more excitingly, Stewart added that he could be joining an upcoming X-Men spin-off that would pair him with Wolverine star Hugh Jackman.

“We have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together,” he told The Oregonian.

“Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I’ve already done.”

The next X-Men instalment is due for release on 27 May next year, featuring three new cast members: Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner will play Jean Grey, The Tree of Life’s Tye Sheridan will star as Cyclops and House of Anubis’ Alexandra Ship has been cast as Storm.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Oscar Isaac will play the title villain Apocalypse, alongside returning cast members James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult.

The as-yet-untitled sequel to 2013’s The Wolverine is expected on 3 March 2017.
