From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chris Pratt has revealed that he and Jennifer Lawrence needed a bit of Dutch courage before filming a sex scene together.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Pratt, who stars in the upcoming film Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence, said that both he and Lawrence had a drink before filming, in a response to rumours that she had to "get drunk" to go through with it.

"I don't know if it was like that [being drunk]," he said. "But look, actors aren't like pilots, operation equipment - and sometimes doing love scenes can be awkward.

"I've done a simulated sex scene before, so it was less weird for me, but for Jen it was the first time she'd ever done anything like that. So Morton said: 'Do you want to have a glass of wine?' Because just like in real life it takes the edge off a bit. And I imbibed as well. And, well, if that's what it takes to get comfortable, why not?"

Passengers is a sci-fi romantic drama starring Lawrence and Pratt as two space travellers who have joined a 120-year journey that will take them to a distant colony on another planet.

Everyone on board the ship is put into hypersleep, but Lawrence and Pratt's characters wake 90 years too early.
