From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The cast of Parent Trap reunited for the first time in 22 years on Monday (21 July), with the notable absence of the late Natasha Richardson.

The actor, who died in 2009 after incurring a traumatic brain injury while skiing, was remembered by the cast during the special.

“Natasha had such an elegance and grace, and she was so maternal to me,” said Lindsay Lohan, who played twins Hallie and Annie in the 1998 classic.

Dennis Quaid, who portrayed Richardson’s ex-husband in the film, started choking up when remembering his co-star.

“[She was] just somebody so giving and so glad to be there and transmitted that joy of being able to do what we do and just made everything that much better,” he said.

Elaine Hendrix – who starred as the stuck-up new girlfriend of Quaid’s character – added that Richardson would “swoon” over her husband Liam Neeson in the makeup trailer, calling him “my Liam”.

Richardson and Neeson met in 1993 while working on Broadway’s Anna Christie. They married the following year and were still together when Richardson died. They had two sons together.

In 2016, Neeson wrote on Facebook: “They say the hardest thing in the world is losing someone you love. My wife died unexpectedly. She brought me so much joy. We have to stop and be thankful for our spouses. Because, one day, when you look up from your phone, they won’t be there anymore. What I truly learned most of all is, live and love every day like it’s your last. Because, one day, it will be.”
