Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sufjan Stevens took to the stage to perform a haunting rendition of his track "Mystery of Love" at the 2018 Oscars, as featured in Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name.
He was flanked by a band of accomplished musicians: St. Vincent, Moses Sumney, Chris Thile, alongside frequent Sufjan collaborators Casey Foubert and James McAlister.
The artist's released nine studio albums and a string singles and collaborations, via his own label Asthmatic Kitty, over the past 17 years.
Interestingly, he'd offered an original track titled "Tonya Harding" to the producers of I, Tonya, but was rejected. The track was instead released separately, unrelated to the film, via Asthmatic Kitty Records' YouTube channel.
The night also featured performances from Mary J. Blige, singing "Mighty River" from Mudbound; alongside Miguel and Gael Garcia Bernal, singing "Remember Me" from Coco.
Still to come are performances by Common and Andra Day, performing "Stand Up for Something" from Marshall; with Keala Settle performing "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman.
