From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Nomadland is coming to Disney+’s new channel Star this spring.

The drama, which was the big winner at last week’s Golden Globes, stars Frances McDormand as Fern, a woman who rejects conventional society following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada.

While the film will be available in UK cinemas when they are able to open, it was announced on Thursday (4 March) that Nomadland will also stream on Star, Disney’s newly launched adult-focused channel, on 30 April.

Unlike new releases such as Mulan and Raya and the Last Dragon, which Disney+ subscribers paid a premium one-off fee to watch on release, Nomadland will be readily available for all UK members.

During Sunday (28 February) night’s Golden Globes, Nomadland was named Best Motion Picture – Drama. Chloé Zhao also won for Best Director for the film, making her only the second woman ever to be awarded the prize.

The film first debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year, where it won the Golden Lion. It is hotly tipped for the 2021 Academy Award nominations, which are being announced on 15 March.

Star launched on Disney+ in February, with content from the likes of Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios and 20th Television.

It is currently home to 276 films and 75 TV series, including new series Big Sky and Love Victor.

Nomadland comes to Disney+ on 30 April. UK viewers can sign up here.
