From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Beyoncé had “bot her eyes” (sic) on an Oscar with a film she is penning “about lady with giant rear”.
It was supposedly a biopic of Saartjie Baartman, a Khoikhoi women who, due to her large buttocks, was exhibited as a freak show attraction in 19th-century.
The rumour spread around the internet, but has since been denied by Beyoncé’s people.
“Beyoncé is not connected to the project, a rep told Independent.co.uk, “this is an important story that should be told, however.”
Did The Sun have a dodgy source? Or did it just link her to the supposed script because she is famous for having a curvaceous posterior? We’ll never know.
Beyoncé has yet to write a feature film, though she has starred in several including Dreamgirls and Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Her husband Jay Z has dipped into film production meanwhile, serving as a producer on Annie, The Great Gatsby and more.
