From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The brief (and frustratingly lo-res) teaser mostly consists of moments we saw in the main and international trailers, though it does shed a little light on why Kylo was stalking through the snowy wood - apparently confronting the heroic Finn, who appears to be wielding Luke’s lightsaber which we saw passed to Leia in the second teaser.
The scene could be elaborated on in the next full-length trailer, which is rumoured to be dropping in September.
Though Kylo appears an incredibly menacing antagonist, he is apparently not a Sith lord.
"Kylo Ren is not a Sith," Abrams told Empire. "He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”
Ren, Snoke (Andy Serkis) and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) are all part of the First Order, an army that rose out of the ashes of the old Galactic Empire.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in cinemas on 18 December, 2015.
