From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The New Mutants co-creator has said he is “done” with the superhero film after noticing his name is spelt incorrectly in the credits.

Bob McLeod alerted his Facebook followers to the error in a statement in which he also criticised the Josh Boone film for white-washing the character of Roberto.

Roberto is played by Henry Zaga in the film, which was shot back in 2017.

McLeod described it as “yet another example of Hollywood white-washing,” adding: “There’s just no excuse.”

Addressing the spelling error, in which his surname is spelt “Macleod”, the comic book artist tweeted: “They couldn’t even be bothered to check the spelling of my name sometime in the last three years. And that can’t be fixed.

“That will be on the movie forever. I think I’m done with this movie.”

It has since been revealed that fellow artist Bill Sienkiewicz is trying to get this corrected for him ahead of the film’s home entertainment release.

The New Mutants, which stars Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton and Anya Taylor-Joy, had been sitting on Fox’s shelf until Disney acquired the studio in a lucrative merger last year.

It will be released in the UK on 4 September.

McLeod co-created The New Mutants with Chris Claremont.
