Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Moulin Rouge! will get the Secret Cinema treatment in 2017.

After months of teasing, event organisers have announced that Paris will come to London for special screenings of Baz Luhrmann's musical drama from Valentine's Day 2017 right through to 30 April.

Released in 2001, Moulin Rouge! stars Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor and Jim Broadbent.

The official announcement reads:

"1899, Summer of Love

Dear Lovers, Dreamers and Beautiful Strangers,

Secret Cinema presents an all-dancing, all-singing secret world of Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!, bringing the living and breathing village of 1899 Paris to a hidden LONDON location, opening VALENTINE’S NIGHT 2017 until April 30th.

Travel over the rooftops, through the alleyways and into the dancehalls of Montmartre. Lose yourself in the sexy, disreputable, glimmering Belle Époque, where you become the Creatures of the Underworld, the Children of the Revolution, and the Aristocrats."

This year's Secret Cinema saw Dirty Dancing come to life as well as Danny Boyle horror film 28 Days Later... and Kubrick classic Dr. Strangelove.

Other films tackled in the past include Coen Brothers prohibition film Miller's Crossing, Back to the Future and Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back.

Tickets for Moulin Rouge! go on sale Friday 8 December; visit here for all details.
