Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Monty Python star Michael Palin will be honoured with a Bafta Fellowship at the organisation's television awards next Sunday.
The actor and presenter made his name with the surreal comics but also enjoyed a successful acting career in shows including GBH and films like A Fish Called Wanda, as well as presenting a string of hit travel shows.
He said: "A Bafta Fellowship is a very high honour for anyone working in television. I'm well aware that any success I've had is down to teamwork. I've been blessed throughout my career with the inspiration and support of others. The Fellowship is for all of us."
Palin will pick up his award at the event, formally known as the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards, on Sunday May 12 at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Bafta chairman John Willis said: "Michael Palin, ex-Python, writer, presenter and Bafta-winning actor, whose amiable on-screen manner belies the seriousness of his craft, has made an incredible contribution to the medium over five decades.
"There are few individuals more worthy than Michael of the Fellowship, the highest honour the Academy can bestow."
The award ceremony will be hosted by Graham Norton.
