From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Filmmaker Michael Moore has told Democrats not to give up hope as the results trickle in for the US presidential election.

In a lengthy Facebook post shared on Wednesday (4 November) morning US time, the Fahrenheit 11/9 director posted pictures of Barack Obama with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and wrote: “THERE IS NO CRYING IN TRUMP REMOVAL!”

Moore claimed that things were looking positive for Democratic candidate Biden after he had flipped a state and electoral college delegate district that had voted Republican in 2016, which Trump had not been able to do.

Moore addressed Trump’s false claims that he had won the election and votes should no longer be counted, writing: “TV last night provided Trump with the graphic map he needed – all those states in blood red – so Trump came out… and declared victory and ordered the counting of all the ballots to cease. Halt! he ordered.

“The places he demanded the counting to be stopped are the places... wait for it!... they are the places with majority Black voters! Just like a thug bigoted strongman leader would do in a non-democracy. He then declared that he would immediately go to his Supreme Court. The one he packed. Will this b****** Court do his bidding? Will we stand for it?”

Moore then reassured Biden voters that Biden was still making gains, adding: “This is not over. Stop crying! There is no crying in Trump Removal!”

He ended his post by apologising to “our Black brothers and sisters” and “the rest of the world” for failing to remove Trump in a landslide.

Earlier this week, the Oscar-winning filmmaker commented that voters were “less complacent” this election in comparison to 2016, but that he would “not make any predictions” over whether Trump or Biden would win.

He also urged Democratic voters to be wary of polls that show Trump trailing in the race, warning that the Trump vote is “always undercounted”.
