From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Disney has released the second official trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, and the clip filled to the brim with singing, dancing and cleaning.

Emily Blunt leads the star-studded cast, taking on the iconic role once played by Julie Andrews. Other confirmed cast members include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Angela Lansbury.

Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert in the original movie, will play a new character: Mr Dawes Jr, the retired chairman of a bank that’s now run by Firth’s character William Weatherall Wilkins.

The film brings the story forward to the era of the Great Depression, with a now grown-up Jane (Mortimer) and Michael (Wishaw) Banks living in their old house.

After a tragedy leaves Michael’s three children without a mother, the Banks’ former nanny makes a return visit, with the help of lamplighter Jack (Miranda).

Directed and produced by Rob Marshall, the film is based on a screenplay by David Magee, with new songs by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and an original score by Shaiman.

Mary Poppins Returns is released to UK cinemas 21 December 2018
