From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fans have repeatedly urged Marvel to include more LGBTQ+ representation in the franchise, which has been criticised in the past for its handling of gender and sexuality.
Asked at the New York Film Academy whether Marvel has any plans to introduce more LGBTQ+ characters, and specifically trans characters, Feige said: “Yes, absolutely yes.”
He added: “Very soon, in a movie we’re shooting right now, yes.”
While Feige did not elaborate on his answer, the only Marvel movie currently in the middle of filming is The Eternals, which stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani.
Feige previously confirmed that one of the film’s characters is a gay man, telling Good Morning America in August 2019 that the mystery character is “married, he’s got a family, and that is just part of who he is”.
Also during the New York Film Academy talk, Feige said that both Black Panther and Captain Marvel were deliberate attempts to “showcase heroes from the comics that represent the world that goes to see our movies”.
The Eternals will be released on 6 November.
