From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Director Martin Scorsese will receive the Cecil B. DeMille award at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 17 for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field," a press release issued by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on November 12 stated.

Scorsese has previously received two Golden Globes for Best Director for The Departed and Gangs of New York.

Steven Spielberg (in 2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Anthony Hopkins (2006), Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004) and Judy Garland, the first woman to win the award in 1962, have been previous recipients of the award.

The Cecil B. DeMille award is named after the showman, who was himself given the first award in 1952 for his last film The greatest show on earth. The winners are selected by the HFPA board of directors. The award honors those who have had a definite impact on the world of entertainment.

Scorsese is currently working on Shutter Island, due for release in the spring of 2010. He is also executive producer on the upcoming HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire.
