DeMille award at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 17 for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field," a press release issued by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on November 12 stated.
Scorsese has previously received two Golden Globes for Best Director for The Departed and Gangs of New York.
Steven Spielberg (in 2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Anthony Hopkins (2006), Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004) and Judy Garland, the first woman to win the award in 1962, have been previous recipients of the award.
The Cecil B. DeMille award is named after the showman, who was himself given the first award in 1952 for his last film The greatest show on earth. The winners are selected by the HFPA board of directors. The award honors those who have had a definite impact on the world of entertainment.
Scorsese is currently working on Shutter Island, due for release in the spring of 2010. He is also executive producer on the upcoming HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire.
