Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The cast of the hugely popular Lord of the Rings film adaptations are reuniting for an unscripted video, which will be released online this Sunday.
The reunion will take place as part of Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart YouTube show, in which the casts of beloved pop culture classics reminisce about their work.
Actors including Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, Karl Urban and Viggo Mortensen will all feature, as well as Miranda Otto, John Rhys-Davies, Sean Bean and Liv Tyler.
In other words, the entirety of the film's core cast (except the late Christopher Lee, and some of the supporting characters) will feature. Peter Jackson, who directed the Oscar-winning trilogy of fantasy films, will also be participating.
In a video announcing the episode, Gad addressed Astin, who played loyal hobbit Samwise Gamgee, ostensibly convincing him to agree to a video call with Wood, who played Frodo.
“You fought off an army of orcs multiple times,” he says, “escaped from the clutches of the Uruk-hai, wounded the demon spider Shelob, ran away from Gollum, all to destroy the most powerful ring in the world.
“How hard can a f***ing phone call to Elijah Wood be?”
More of the cast then arrive towards the end of the video, which then announces that the reunion will premiere on Sunday 31 May, at 5pm in the UK (9am PT and 12pm EST) on Gad’s YouTube channel.
