Lonely Island set to make new film with Superbad producer Judd Apatow

Your support makes all the difference.Lonely Island are set to hit Hollywood again after it was announced that Universal Pictures had picked up the rights for a new film starring the comedic-music trio.
American website Variety reported on Thursday that the Lonely Island boys, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, were set to team up with Knocked-Up producer Judd Apatow to make what will be the trio’s second feature film.
Although a title has yet to be decided, and very little detail about film’s plot has been revealed, Variety did report that the film would have the three men playing characters in “the world of music”.
Scaffer and Taccone are believed to have put themselves forward as the film’s directors and producer of Liar Liar, Erik Baiers, is also said to be involved.
The new film will be Lonely Island’s second Hollywood project after the release Hot Rod in 2007.
The film, that starred Samberg as the self-proclaimed stuntman Rod Kimble, ended up bombing in the box office losing Paramount Pictures over $10 million.
Yet since then, Lonely Island’s stock has raised significantly, with a regular slot on popular American television show Saturday Night Live and a number of high-profile music collaborations with stars such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna.
The news that Judd Apatow is on board will further increase the hype around the film. Since the release of Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy in 2004, Apatow’s movies like Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall have dominated Hollywood, earning millions at the box office.
The new film will be the second high-profile project they have signed up to this year. In January, they signed a deal with Fox that would see them producing comedy shows for the network over the next couple of years.
