From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Just a week ago, the internet barely knew a single factoid about Wolverine 3 except Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart would be reprising their X-Men roles for the game.

We now know a whole lot more, including the official title of the film - Logan - as well as minor plot details such as the main character being significantly older, his healing factor diminishing, chronic pain and drinking issues.

Director James Mangold then Tweeted out an image of Stewart, wearing makeup to make him noticeably older than usual. Now, an official Instagram account titled wponx - presumably short for Weapon X - has started posting photos.

One photo with the caption “Aftermath” featured a severed hand holding a shotgun, blood splattered on the floor. Another features the word “Aviso” or “Notice”.

Speaking about the film in a recent interview, Jackman said: “Basically, it’s going to be different. Very different in tone and hopefully to anything we’ve done”. Mangold has since added: “If you're on the make for a hyper-choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying CG f**kathon, this ain't your movie.

“In this flick, people get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy, like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won't bounce. They will die.”

A poster for the film has also been revealed, featuring Wolverine's iconic claws while also revealing the film’s release date: 3 March 2017.

Logan is expected to use elements of the comic-book storyline Old Man Logan and will likely feature the mutant X-23, who in the source material takes over the Wolverine name after Logan.

Meanwhile, the film’s main villain was recently confirmed by producer Simon Kinberg and X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer.
