Sam Phillips is the rock pioneer who oversaw Presley lay down his first single "That's All Right" as part of Sun Records which he founded in 1952.
Based on book Sam Phillips: The Man Who Created Rock 'N' Roll by Peter Guralnick, the film will be produced by DiCaprio as well as Mick Jagger who'll attempt to bring the as-of-yet untitled biopic to the big screen much in the same way he produced short-lived HBO series Vinyl.
With the film still looking for a writer, Variety reports that this won't be DiCaprio's first role since winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Revenant; reports suggest he's still circling long-gestating adaptation Devil in the White City.
It was announced this week that the actor's company Appian Way will produce a film version of Captain Planet, the superhero who fights against 'environmental evils.'
